Schoology - Document Viewer Enhancements

Schoology has announced changes to their embedded Document viewer. Their announcement is below.

On December 29th, we are releasing our new Document Viewer, which provides an enhanced viewing experience for all documents on the web platform. Additionally, educators will have an improved grading experience for assignment submissions on both the web and in the native iOS and Android apps. 
Please note that assignments that were annotated using the previous Document Viewer will continue to display the previous experience.

9-21-16 Google Drive and docs - New Features

Starting today, you can use Natural Language Processing (NLP) and other new and improved features in Drive search on web to find files easier and faster. You'll also see a couple of highly-requested Google Docs features that have been added based on your feedback (thank you!).

The issue is resolved for the vast majority of affected customers and we will be working individually with the remaining customers affected. We will conduct an internal investigation of this issue and make appropriate improvements to our systems to prevent or minimize future recurrence. We will provide a more detailed analysis of this incident to the affected customers once we have completed our internal investigation.

Based on reports, it affects only Google for Work Gmail users. The users are redirected to a page with 'Service not available, contact your administrator'.
Workaround: Disable Gmail Service in Admin Console UI, save the changes, enable it back, save the changes.

School Registration Reminder

Our new E-Registration portal is now available!  This post is a follow-up to a letter and an email you should have received. If you have already completed your Parent Portal Single-Sign-On and E-Registration, THANK YOU!
If you have not created your Parent Portal Single Sign-On account and completed E-Registration, please continue reading.

For those who prefer to fill out the forms via paper, traditional printed "summer packets" can still be mailed home upon request or picked up at the school office. Please call your school to make your request.

E-Registration is accessed through the PowerSchool Parent Portal HERE. If you need your parent username and password, please call your school, email support at lssutech@lssuvt.org or contact Melissa Gillen at 802-888-4541 x5559.  For additional instruction on how to create a Parent Portal Single Sign-On account, please click HERE.

E-Registration will allow parents and guardians to update their student's demographic information, electronically sign parent permissions, and view documents and forms via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. We are certain that you will find this to be a more convenient and faster way to update your family’s information with the school.
Lamoille South Supervisory Union is committed to improving communication with families. We are implementing this system to provide a more accurate, flexible, and cost effective approach to collecting and updating student information. We also hope parents will find this system a more convenient and faster way to communicate with schools.

7-26-16 Google Update - Google Drive shared folders are now easier for recipients to use

Today, Google announced an update to Drive. Shared content will now behave like your own content. In other words, you will no longer have to "Add to my Drive" to manipulate the content.

NEW! Google Cast for Education - Share student's screens with the class

What is Google Cast for Education?

Google Cast for Education is a free Chrome app that allows students and teachers to share their screens wirelessly from anywhere in the classroom. Cast for Education carries video and audio across complex school networks, has built-in controls for teachers, and works seamlessly with Google Classroom.
The Cast for Education app runs on the teacher’s computer that’s connected to the classroom projector, and it does not require new hardware. Teachers receive casts through the Cast for Education app, and students share their screens using the upcoming version of the Cast feature in Chrome.

6-15-16 New Version of Google Sites Announced

Google Sites has long been in need of an update. Google just announced that the new version will be made available to organizations from now through the end of the year. There is an Early Adopters program that LSSU has signed up for that may make Sites available sooner rather than later.

What is new? From Googles announcement - "With the new Google Sites, you can build beautiful, functional pages to aggregate and distribute content across your enterprise, optimized for every screen. A new intuitive drag-and-drop design experience supports real-time collaboration by multiple editors, just like in Docs, and offers easy access to all your content from Calendar, Docs, Drive, Maps and more. The new Sites also includes themes and layouts designed to scale and flex to any screen size, so they’re as useful when you access them on the 30-inch monitor at your desk or your smartphone on your commute."

What does this mean? Not much in the short term. Teachers and students should continue doing what you do. When the new version becomes available, we will provide training  and guidance.

Google has said that the current version of Sites will remain fully functional for at least one year and in the future, there will be an option for moving current content to a New Site.

We have confirmed that this issue only affected messages sent to consumer Gmail accounts, and that messages sent to Google Apps accounts were not rejected.
